Iuka home damaged by fire

An Iuka home was damaged by fire Friday afternoon.

Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says the owner Adam Goff returned to his home in the 600 block of Main Street to find the bathroom area around the furnace on fire.   He reports the fire had also extended into part of the attic.

Iuka Firemen worked for an initial knockdown through an outside window.  Once additional help arrived from the Salem Fire Department, the fire in the attic was vented through the roof, and ceilings were pulled down to get to the fire in the attic.

Eagan says the fire was kept from spreading outside of the bathroom, but there is considerable smoke and heat damage to part of the remainder of the home with lighter smoke damage to the rest.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

In addition to Salem, Kell, Kinmundy-Alma, Orchardville, and Xenia Firemen were called for mutual aid assistance.
