New construction in Salem during 2022 topped $ 7.2 million dollars led by two multimillion-dollar commercial buildings. Permits were issued for only one new home and to locate three mobile homes during the year as new residential construction remains slow.
The two large commercial projects include the construction of the new manufacturing facility at 2028 West Main Street at Selmaville Road. Aaron Robb was issued a building permit for $ 3 million. No details have yet been released on the type of manufacturing to be done in the new commercial structure. Little Egypt Golf Carts was issued a $2.5-million permit for a new building at Little Egypt Lane off North Hotze Road near the Mills Cart Road intersection.
There were also two other large commercial projects. The Salem Grade School District was issued a $659,000 permit for new buildings at the Hawthorn Grade School campus. Salem Industrial Enterprises was issued a $300,000 permit for a new building at 331 South Hotze Road.
A permit was issued for the construction of a new home at 221 Newport Drive. Permits were issued to locate mobile homes at 719 South Washington, 410 East Lake, and 2609 South Washington.
Two solar energy projects were permitted. One for $114,975 was at a home at 129 Woodland Drive and the other was a $70,247 project at a residence at 345 Indiana.
Twelve permits were approved to install pools. 11 permits were issued for garage or storage buildings. Those projects had a total estimated value of $88,600.
