Police Beat for Thursday, December 29th, 2022

A 25-year-old Salem man was arrested by both Centralia and Salem Police on different issues Wednesday night.  Johnny Skurat of East Olive was initially brought to the Marion County Jail by Centralia Police for resisting arrest and possession of a hypodermic syringe.   Salem Police later arrested him for felony retail theft and felony theft following an incident at the Salem Walmart store on Monday.   Police say Skurat allegedly left the store without paying for a jacket and allegedly stole one of the employee’s cell phones.

A 41-year-old Odin man was arrested by Centralia Police on a Marion County felony failure to appear warrant and a Perry County misdemeanor warrant.  Joshua Reid of Odin Road is being held in lieu of $30,000 bond on the Marion County warrant issued on pending charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and $10,000 on the Perry County warrant for failure to return from furlough on a misdemeanor charge.

38-year-old Matthew Ellis of Maple Avenue in Alma was arrested by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies on a Marion County felony warrant on a driving on suspended or revoked license charge.  He was released after posting $250 bond.

30-year-old Derek Caswell of East England in Mt. Vernon was arrested by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies on two outstanding Clay County warrants.  He was released after posting $300 bond.
