The Salem Police Department has named its officer and telecommunicator of the year.
Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl says Salem High School Resource Officer Craig Vierra was named officer of the year.
“He does an excellent job and works well with the teachers and administrators and the kids have really become acclimated to him. There has been a little bit of an uptick in activity and he’s been a real positive at the school to help with solutions and handling things that we have had.”
Vierra joined the Salem Police Department four years after working for eight years as a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Ambuehl says the telecommunicator of the year is Emily Meador-Day.
“She has been there a little over a year, great personality, works hard and does anything you ask her to do in getting the job done. She handles her calls well and is a real positive department to have at our department.”
Meador-Day worked as a telecommunicator at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department before joining the Salem Police Department.
The awards were handed out at the Salem Police Department’s annual Christmas Party.
