A 46-year-old rural Centralia man has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery following altercations with two members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department that came to his home on separate days to handle complaints.

Jason Hoffman of Old Salem Road is accused of striking a sheriff’s deputy in April in the arm and allegedly striking another member of the department in the arm with a plunger in June.

The charges were filed after Hoffman was arrested following a December 12th incident of misdemeanor criminal trespass to land for entering the property where he had earlier been prohibited.

During his first appearance, Hoffman had bond set at $50,000.

A judge also found there was a bonafide doubt about Hoffman’s fitness and ordered a fitness evaluation.   He’ll be back in court on January 10th for a status hearing.

A public defender has been appointed to represent him.
