An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been charged in Jefferson County Court with armed violence and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
Codie Jenkins was arrested following an attempted traffic stop Monday morning in the 4100 block of Willow Springs. Mt. Vernon Police say he traveled eastbound on the parking lot at the rear of Times Square Mall before fleeing the vehicle into a wooded area near Crossroads Community Hospital. He was eventually apprehended during the chase.
After conducting a search, Jenkins was allegedly found in possession of cannabis, scales, packaging materials, and a loaded handgun that reportedly had been stolen from an offense in Centralia.
During his first court appearance in Jefferson County Court, the bond was set at $150,000.
