Hawthorn Grade School in Salem has made the prestigious Exemplary list for being in the top 10 percent of school districts in the state based on test scores and other factors.
Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says the designation is made in the school district’s report card. Franklin Park Middle School is the next level lower at commendable. Foppe reports both schools have no underperforming subgroups.
“Very exciting especially living through COVID and the ramifications of COVID. We are very excited and proud to announce that. We will be sharing that on our different social medias and brag about that because it is something to be very proud. I would like to thank our administrators, our teachers, parents, and students working so hard to obtain those designations.”
The school district’s complete report card is online under the Illinois State Board of Education Website.
Foppe reported the piping for natural gas service to be installed at the new multipurpose building arrived in early November and installation of it and a few other items are being completed before students can utilize the building. She hopes it’s ready in a few weeks.
Following a closed session, the board awarded Superintendent Foppe a new five-year contract. Her current contract expires at the end of this school year.
In other personnel action, the board accepted a resignation from Amanda Petrea as a paraprofessional effective December 20th and hired Chris Graham as a volunteer boys basketball coach.
The board moved its December meeting to December 13th in hopes the district’s audit is complete and can be presented before the December 15th deadline. Foppe says the auditing firm has been shorthanded and has been working hard to meet the deadline.
