Update One: Centralia Police investigating Sunday night shooting that sends woman to hospital for treatment

Centralia Police say nine shots were fired in an apparent drive-by shooting at a home in the 500 block of South Maple Street Sunday night where a 55-year-old female resident was shot.

Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says the victim received a gunshot wound to her upper back near her shoulder.  She was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital by Lifestar Ambulance.   No information was available about her condition.

Whritenour says police were originally called to the scene following multiple 911 calls of six to seven shots being fired.  He reports the alleged victim was inside her house when police arrived, but it is not clear where she was when struck by the bullet.

Patrol officers were able to recover several spent shell casings in the roadway.    They attempted to speak to another individual in the residence, but that person was uncooperative.

Centralia Police investigators and the State Crime Scene Investigation unit were called out to investigate.

Both the Centralia City Fire Department and Lifestar Ambulance were called to assist.

Whritenour says at this time they are following several leads and have some strong suspects, but no arrests have been made.

The calls about the gunfire came in at 9:34 Sunday night.
