The Social Service agency BCMW has been awarded a 2022 Nourish Our Community Conagra Brands Foundation Grant.
Executive Director Sue Castleman says the $20,243 grant will support a three-pronged effort to fight local food insecurity.
Two hundred families will be presented with food bundles. The first 50 families will be in conjunction with BCMW’s Adopt a Family Program and their need for food during the holiday season.
The program will target 40 school-age children who attend the after-school tutoring program at the Centralia Community Youth Center to teach them how to prepare healthy snacks in conjunction with the University of Illinois Extension.
Raised garden beds will be constructed with the help of Feed Centralia so that 50 families will be supplied with fresh produce.
The program will provide a ten-hour-a-week administrator. ConAgra employees will also provide assistance in providing assistance.
BCMW is one of 23 organizations in 12 states to receive this year’s Conagra Nourish Our Community Award.
Castleman says BCMW looks forward to working with Conagra volunteers along with local community volunteers to carry out these three projects planned through the grant.
