A 58-year-old Watson man was shot in the leg by a crossbow Wednesday morning while helping to track a deer that had been shot late Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area in rural Kell.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Ronald Slifer and another man had gone with the hunter to the area the deer had been shot near Roosevelt and Oak Roads.  While walking, the hunter, who had his crossbow loaded and set, tripped and the arrow shot Slifer in the leg.   The arrow remained in Slifer’s leg.

Kell Fire Assistant Chief Jason Franke says firemen wrapped gauze around the wound to try and control the bleeding. With the help of United Medical Response, Kell Firemen moved Slifer to a set-aside field where an Air Evac helicopter landed.   Slifer was then transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for treatment.

The incident occurred at 8:26 Wednesday morning.
