The Salem Wildcats won their conference finale knocking off Freeburg at Jim Finks Field 21-14.  The Cats got on top early when they capitalized on a couple of Midget fumbles to go up 14-7.  Salem took a 21-7 lead when Caleb Smith caught a touchdown pass in the 2nd half.  The midgets would get to within a score on a touchdown run from Tucker Murphy, but failed twice late deep in Salem territory as the Cats defense came up huge stops to secure just their 2nd win of the season.  Salem got touchdown runs from Kason Sullens as well.  Salem will finish up their season next week when they honor their seniors and welcome former assistant coach Alex Koebele and the Charleston Trojans to town.  The Trojans are coming off a nice 30-27 win over Mt Zion last night.

The Columbia Eagles will share the Cahokia Conference title after their exciting 28-27 win at Breese Central.  Senior Eagles quarterback rushed 23 times for an unbelievable 385 yards and 4 touchdowns in the victory.  He scored on runs of 60, 82 and 63 yards in the first half, and then snapped a 21-all tie with an 88 yard touchdown with under 10 minutes left in the game.  Breese scored with 4:17 left to trail 28-27 but went for 2 trying to grab the lead but Voegele tackled Breese quarterback Conner Freeze 2 yards shy of the end zone to preserve the win.  On the season, Voegele has rushed for 1156 yards and following the game Central coach Brian Short said of him, he’s the best athlete in the conference, and probably the best athlete in the area.  And he also has a mid-90s fastball who has committed to play at Kansas.

Wood River also saw an opportunity to share their first Cahokia football title, but fell short in a 35-27 loss to Roxana.

The Mount Vernon Rams gained a share of the South 7 Conference title after their dominant 35-7 home win over the host Orphans in the Rams Pink Out Game.  The win allows the Rams and Orphans to share the league title and they will also share it with the Marion Wildcats after their 40-7 win over Carbondale.  Althoff also had a shot at a share, but fell to Cahokia 56-6.
