The Salem Wildcats enter week 6 of the High School football season at 1-4 and have started out 0-2 in the Cahokia.  After losses to Wood River (4-1, 1-1) and Roxana (3-2, 1-1) to start the conference season, Salem will host perennial power Breese Central, who along with Columbia sit atop the Conference with 2-0 records and both are 4-1 on the season.

Columbia will travel to Wood River in a battle to try and stay atop the Cahokia.  The Eagles lone loss on the season came to Mascoutah in the opening week, but since have reeled off wins over Waterloo, Marquette, Roxana and Freeburg.   Wood River is coming off their first loss of the year when they fell at Central in Week 5.

Freeburg is trying to stop the bleeding after opening the season 3-0, they have lost their first two conference games to Breese Central and Columbia.  They are desperate for a win, and they hope it comes at the expense of the Roxana Shells who they will travel to this week.

Current conference standings see Columbia and Central at the top at 2-0, Wood River and Roxana tied at 1-1 and Freeburg and Salem at 0-2.  The best defense so far in the league has been Roxana giving up just 74 points.  The most prolific offense to date has come from Wood River who has scored 156.  Salem has scored 123 points and given up a league most 153.
