The Salem Wildcats dropped their road game at Roxana last night 28-7.
The Shells defense held Salem in check and it was the big play that helped the Shells out to the lead. Tailback Terrel Graves rushed 12 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, Nick Ward went for 138 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown and Evan Wells got in the mix carrying 16 times for 57 yards.
For the Cats, Same Greene finished the day throwing for 88 yards and a touchdown as well as an interception. The touchdown was a 5 yard strike with 5:10 left in the 3rd quarter from Greene to Jervaice Mayes that capped off a 59 yard drive that was kept alive on a roughing the passer penalty that was picked by Roxana but given back to the Cats with the flag, and they took advantage with a score.
Mayes finished with 61 yards on the ground, Kane Huggins added 16 yards on 9 carries. Kam’Ron Hilton had 3 catches for 35 yards including a really nice Moss of a double team for a 26 yard gain.
Salem returns to action next week at home when they host the Breese Central Cougars.
Also in the Cahokia Breese Central handed East Alton Wood River their first loss of the season 21-6, Columbia shutout Freeburg 24-0.
The Centralia Orphans improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the South Seven with their 16-7 win over Belleville Althoff.
