It’s week 5 in high school football and the 2nd week for the Cahokia Conference games.
The Salem Wildcats enter their road game at Roxana with a 1-2 record and 0-1 in the League after last week’s loss at East Alton Wood River. They look to keep their season on track with a win, but it won’t be easy as Roxana enters at 2-2 on the season with wins over Robinson and Civic Memorial and losses to Red Bud and to Columbia last week 28-27. The Shells have given up a Conference low 67 points this season and scored 100 which is middle of the pack. Salem has scored 116 points which is the 3rd highest in the league but they have given up 125 points which is the most in the Cahokia.
Breese Central is 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league after a big win over Freeburg last weekend. They will host undefeated Wood River (4-0, 1-0) and will have to slow down tailback Seth Slayden who rushed for 250 yards and 5 touchdowns last week against the Wildcats. Central has given up 71 points this season while they have scored 97. Wood River has scored 150, the most in the league and given up 79.
The Columbia Eagles (3-1, 1-0) will matchup at home with Freeburg (3-1, 0-1) in another huge conference matchup. The Eagles came back to win last week over the Shells and are the lowest scoring team in the Cahokia at 64 points but have been fairly stingy on defense giving up 76. The Midgets are the 2nd best defensive team in the league giving up just 59 points on the season while scoring the 2nd highest at 131.
As it sits right now, Wood River leads the league at 4-0, 1-0 followed by Columbia and Breese Central both 3-1, 1-0, Freeburg is next at 3-1, 0-1 followed by Roxana 2-2, 0-1 and then Salem 1-3, 0-1.
