Salem Apple Fest is set for Saturday at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

The annual event is sponsored by the Greater Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.   Executive Director Jessiycka Coleman says gates open at nine and the Fest continues until three.

“About a hundred vendors are scheduled to attend with us.  Food trucks, food tents, and of course some great live performances are set up as well for Saturday.  We can’t forget the kids so we do have a free kids area with jumpy’s from Kim’s Jumps.  We also have some organizations that will be on hand doing live activities as well as ax throwing.”

Ax throwing?  Coleman says it is safe and sponsored by an organization raising money for veterans.

“They have a cage, it’s safe.  And you have several axes and throw them at a designated photo or wood.”

Other special activities include the Apple Wars apple pie contest at ten am and the Apple Dumpling Little Miss and Little Mister contest that closes at 2:30 pm.

Music this year includes musicians from Scale Music at nine, the Wildcat Cheerleaders at 9:45, and Up All Night STL from ten to two.

The Ghostbusters car will be there to take selfies and a United Medical Response ambulance will be on display.

Entry is $5 for a carload.
