The Centralia City Schools Board meeting was held last night, boasting a record number of motions being made. Superintendent Craig Clark started off the meeting with a short summary of the budget, noting that while the overall budget is projected to end with a negative $110,386 balance, all projects were covered in the new budget.

“The budget itself is going to be balanced and using those federal dollars that we are getting for Covid relief we are going to use to upgrade some of our buildings to help with the HVAC systems and eliminate some of the problems we have with our roofs.”

Among the new project approvals are the following:

  • Roof repair at Central Middle School by Jim Taylor Inc. at a cost of $11,850.00
  • Purchasing volleyball standards from Jaypro Sports for a cost of $10,904.00
  • Lunsford Architects recommendation of purchasing awning material from Americana at a cost of $238,725.00
  • Lunsford Architects recommendation to proceed with soil borings at Jordan School and Central Middle School
  • New intercom system and installation at Schiller School as a result of damages during ongoing projects
  • Architect recommendation for ESSER II HVAC Projects:
    • Junior High West Wing – Industrial Mechanical at $224,000.00
    • Junior High Media Center – A & W Plumbing at $188,000.00
    • Jordan School – Heartland Mechanical at $804,800.00
    • Schiller School – A & W Plumbing a $154,000.00

Along with these approved projects, Clark provided an update on the ongoing Schiller School project.

“The main project we are working on at Schiller is the multi-purpose room.  The contractors have the steel in place and the structure is up.  We are going to be adding brick to the walls in the upcoming weeks.  There’s some exterior work like concrete, playground, asphalt, and parking lot areas they are going to be working on while they are waiting on the blocks to be delivered and the bricklayers to get started.  So it looks like in the next few weeks we will see an actual building there.  It’s been a year since we started this so it will be nice to see something up off the ground.”
