Salem Police say a 32-year-old Iuka man who was stabbed in the arm Thursday night was involved in an altercation in the 600 block of West Schwartz. Police say initial information indicated the man had been stabbed in a separate incident in the 100 block of South Broadway, which they have now learned is not true.
The man was later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital where he reportedly has undergone surgery. Salem Police were not yet able to talk with him as the investigation continued Friday.
Meanwhile, the search for others involved in the West Schwartz Street altercation is continuing. The call to police indicated several individuals were fighting, but no one was in the area when police arrived on the scene at 9:52 Thursday night. Police have received some video from the area behind the former Video Experience building that is being reviewed.
Police are also still unsure if there may have been other injuries. They searched the area until early Friday morning making sure no one was lying on the ground hurt without finding anything.
