A 31-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer after allegedly attacking two correctional officers who had come into his cell Friday morning.

Jacob Erwin is accused of shoving and punching one of the officers in the neck and eye causing an eye injury.   He is charged with shoving and hitting the second in the face causing a lip injury.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports one of the correctional officers had to seek hospital treatment, while injuries to the second were more minor.

Erwin had just been charged last week with aggravated battery to another inmate in his cell when reportedly punching him after dragging him out of his bed.   The other inmate did not require hospital treatment.

Erwin was originally taken to jail after being charged earlier this year with vehicular hijacking and violation of an order of protection.    Bond on those charges was set at $100,000.

No additional bond was set on the aggravated battery charge filed in connection with the alleged attack on another inmate.

Erwin was originally scheduled to make a first appearance on the new aggravated battery to a police officer charges Friday afternoon, but the appearance never took place.
