A Walnut Hill home sustained heavy fire damage early Wednesday morning.
Centralia Fire Protection District Chief Ross Boshera says the department was called to a home owned by Tom Atchison at 46 Main Street. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire in the front part of the house that had gone through the roof. Firemen got a quick knockdown and the back half of the home is still standing.
Boshera lists the cause of the fire as suspicious and the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate.
The home had reportedly recently been rented out and was undergoing renovation work.
No one was home when the fire was discovered.
Odin and Kell Firemen were called to the scene for mutual aid. Both brought tanker trucks to help haul water to the scene. Sandoval Firemen stood by at the Centralia Fire Protection District in the event of another fire.
Firemen first received the call at 3:28 Wednesday morning and were on the scene for about four hours.
