Another round of heavy showers and thundershowers late Thursday afternoon aggravated earlier flooding problems and created issues on even the major roadways.

The Centralia Water Plant recorded an additional 2.03 inches of rain for the 24 hour period ending at seven Friday morning, bringing the total for the week to 5.75 inches. The Salem Water Plant recorded an additional 63-hundredths of an inch of rain, bringing the total for the week to 4.01 inches. Even with all the
additional rain, only one gate of Raccoon Lake is open 18 inches Friday morning.

Many found flooded roads when heading home Thursday night including some areas that rarely flood. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported a vehicle flooded out on US 50 west of Farthing Road in rural Odin in about six inches of water.

Flooding problems also occurred on Route 37 in the Cartter Road area, with six to eight inches of water covering the pavement at one point. Another vehicle had to be towed out of floodwaters on Bethel Road near old US 51. The sheriff’s department reports the drivers of all the stalled vehicles were able to get out on their own.

A downed tree blocked all travel on Old US 51 near Banks Bowl until it was removed by IDOT.
