The Salem Community Theatre is hosting the Harry Potter Birthday Party Experience on Saturday night. The event had to be canceled the past two years due to COVID-19 and the coordinator of the event Kendra Herman is hoping it will come back bigger and better than ever.
Herman says doors will open at six Saturday night.
“Once they come in they will see the lobby will be transformed into the great hall at Hogwarts. Dumbledore will be in here sorting kids if they aren’t sure on their Hogwarts house. There are several live scenes set up from the actual movie. The Gryffindor guard, the fat lady will be here singing. Hagrid’s Hut will be here and he will be there to take pictures as well. You can go to the Hogs Head Tavern and have some butter beer made for you.”
Herman also wants the audience to get involved.
“There’s going to be a costume contest, lots of door prizes. About 7 pm we will start the movie and after that, we will sing Happy Birthday because it is his birthday and everyone will get a party favor on their way out.”
The movie to be shown this year is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Herman is commending Amy Cunningham of Salem for being the master of the Harry Potter scenes that have been constructed for the event.
She says more than 30 volunteers are working to put together the program. Almost all will be in costume, including Mayor Nic Farley as Dumbledore. Herman says plan to arrive early to take a picture with your favorite characters.
Tickets are $5 for both students and adults. Tickets are available for purchase at the theatre office, Salem City Hall, or at salemiltheatre.org. Herman encourages everyone to get tickets as soon as possible because only a limited number of tickets will be available.
