Most government offices are closed for the Fourth of July holiday on Monday.  That includes area courthouses, Salem and Centralia City Halls, financial institutions, and the post office.

In Centralia, garbage pickup will be on the regular schedule Monday and all week.   In Salem, there is no pickup on Monday with trash pickup running a day late the rest of the week.   The city’s landscape waste program will be on the regular Tuesday-Thursday schedule this week.

The City of Salem will celebrate the 4th with a concert featuring five bands and individuals at the band stage in Bryan Memorial Park at three Monday afternoon.  Lakeside will kick off the music at three, John Spicer will perform at 4:10, Greg Klyma at 5:15, Taylor Steele and the Love Preachers at 6:10, and Chain Station at 7:20 pm.  The concert will end by 8:30 to give everyone a chance to move closer to the Salem Reservoir for the fireworks display which will begin at nine.

Spillway Road will be closed to traffic for the City of Salem Fireworks Display beginning at approximately 7:30 PM through 10:00 PM.  After the display, the roadway will be open for vehicle traffic once pedestrians are cleared of the roadway.

Spillway Road will be blocked at North Broadway as well as at GAR Drive and Ricker Drive in Bryan Memorial Park. During this time, please use North College Street if going to the Salem Township Hospital for the Emergency Room.

Centralia’s 4th of July activity continues Monday with a car show in Fairview Park at the Veteran’s 4th of July parade at one.   You can still register to participate in the parade by coming to the registration table starting at 12:15 at Broadway and Chestnut.    The parade will travel west on Broadway to Fairview Park where the awards will be given out.   The parade will be led by Grand Marshall the Honorable World War II POW Sergeant Wilbert ‘Vince’ Rolves of Beckemeyer.  Centralia’s fireworks were already held on Saturday.  The American Legion Carnival is open for a final night Monday from six to ten pm.

Mt. Vernon will celebrate the 4th with a Salute to Freedom at the Outland Airport.   A variety of activities are planned leading up to the United States Air Force Concert Band at 7:30 and the fireworks at nine.
