The Centralia High School Board Monday night saw a discussion of several upcoming and ongoing renovation projects.
The gym will be receiving several new features, a new center-hanging scoreboard, new side basketball hoops, and new bleachers. Painting is being done in the gym and in several other places throughout the school. New carpeting is being installed in the main office, athletic office, and several classrooms.
CHS is currently applying for grants which, if approved, will provide funding for more such projects, including painting classrooms.
The budget hearing was held with no one from the public present to comment. This year’s budget showed an overall increase in funds.
Superintendent Chuck Lane noted there has been a net increase in funds every year for the past several years, and that having more available money has made more projects possible that benefit the school.
In other business, the board re-approved a line of credit with People’s National Bank which can be used to borrow money in an emergency, and it re-employed the school treasurer.
The board also reviewed bids for a new worker’s compensation insurance provider and accepted the bid from North Wayne Insurance, which agreed to provide up to three million dollars in coverage for a $27,000 premium. Lane noted that this bid gave both a lower premium and a greater amount of coverage than the school’s previous provider.
The board accepted a letter of resignation from math teacher Brandon Morris.
