Today is primary election day in Illinois. Polls remain open until seven tonight.
The State Board of Elections is projecting a 27-percent voter turnout. Marion County Clerk Steve Fox feels 30 percent of the voters will go to the polls in Marion County. It is the first time new election equipment is being used in Marion County.
In addition to all the statewide offices being up for election, voters are being asked to vote for a US Senator, Congressman, Appellate Court Justice, county sheriff, county clerk, county treasurer, and a full Marion County Board. There are Republican primaries for sheriff as well as county board in both Districts One and Two.
Even if you haven’t registered to vote yet, you can do that at the polling place today. State Board of Elections spokesperson Matt Dietrich says just to be sure you have two forms of identification including one that has your correct address.
Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by election day or dropped off in person or at a collection box. Dietrich says more voter information including where to cast your ballot is available online at elections.il.gov.
Marion County had a strong finish to early voting with 58 ballots cast on Saturday and 90 on Monday for a total of 717 early votes.
WJBD-FM will have complete election night coverage beginning around eight Tuesday night.
