ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning for the first walk-off RBI of his major league career, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals over Cincinnati 5-4 in yet another Reds bullpen collapse. Paul Goldschmidt’s streak of reaching base ended at 46 games with an 0-for-4 day for the NL Central-leading Cardinals. St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright and catcher Yadier Molina made their 316th start together, tying the Boston and Milwaukee Braves’ Warren Spahn and Del Crandall for second-most behind the 324 of Detroit’s Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan.
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit two of the Yankees’ six solo homers off rookie Matt Swarmer, and New York routed the Chicago Cubs 8-0 for its 10th win in 11 games. Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Jose Trevino, and former Cub Anthony Rizzo also went deep against the 28-year-old right-hander as the Yankees hit their most homers since Sept. 17, 2020, against Toronto. Batting leadoff for the fourth time this year, Judge hit his second career leadoff homer, sending a 1-0 fastball from Swarmer into the left-field seats. Judge added his major league-leading 24th, one of three home runs in the fifth.

— Dansby Swanson blooped a three-run single, Ozzie Albies added a grand slam in an eight-run seventh inning and the Atlanta Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4 for their 10th consecutive win. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Austin Riley also homered for the defending World Series champions, on their longest winning streak 14 in a row from July 26 to Aug. 9, 2013. The Braves were 10 1/2 games behind the NL East-leading New York Mets before play on June 2 and closed within 6 1/2 games by Saturday morning. Pittsburgh has lost a season-worst five straight.
— Clayton Kershaw gave up a go-ahead home run to Thairo Estrada in a two-run second inning as the three-time Cy Young Award winner returned from the injured list, and the San Franciso Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2. Los Angeles outhit the Giants 13-5 but stranded 14 runners and went 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position. The Dodgers have lost eight of their last 12 games. Kershaw returned on the same day Dodgers ace Walker Buehler went on the injured list with a right forearm strain that will sideline him for at least two months.
— Big league batting leader Luis Arraez hit his first career grand slam and the Minnesota Twins spoiled Shane Baz’s season debut, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5. Arraez got at least three hits for the seventh time this season, raising his average to .367. He has three home runs this year, including two in the last three games. Arraez homered as part of a five-run third inning against Baz, Tampa Bay’s top pitching prospect who returned after elbow surgery in March. Baz allowed five runs in 2 1/3 innings on three hits and three walks.
— Rookie Beau Brieske pitched into the sixth inning and earned his first major league victory, Victor Reyes came off the injured list and had three hits and the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1. Making his ninth start, Brieske scattered seven hits and didn’t issue a walk in 5 2/3 innings. Gregory Soto survived a ninth-inning jam for his 13th save. Reyes and Eric Haase each scored a run and drove in another.
— Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz and Josh Bell hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning, and the Washington Nationals beat Milwaukee 8-6 to deal the Brewers their eighth consecutive loss. It was the fifth time since the Nationals moved to Washington in 2005 that they hit three consecutive homers and the first time since June 9, 2019, at San Diego. Milwaukee is in the midst of its longest losing streak since dropping eight in a row from Sept. 11-19, 2015. The Brewers have been outscored 57-20 during their skid.
— Zack Wheeler struck out eight over six sharp innings, Bryson Stott hit a two-run homer and the Philadelphia Phillies won their ninth straight game with a 4-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Phillies matched their longest winning streak since 2011. The Phillies will try on Sunday for 10 straight wins for the first time since 1984. The Phillies are 30-29 and have a winning record for the first time since April 12. Phillies interim manager Rob Thomson improved to 8-0 since he took over for the fired Joe Girardi. He’s the first manager to win his first eight games since Joe Morgan did it for the Red Sox in 1988.
— Loud chants of “Fire Tony!” broke out at Guaranteed Rate Field as manager Tony La Russa and the Chicago White Sox blew a five-run lead and lost to the Texas Rangers 11-9 in 10 innings. La Russa has been under increased scrutiny this week since ordering an unconventional intentional walk in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The White Sox won the AL Central last season, but now are just 27-30 under their 77-year-old Hall of Fame manager. Chicago has lost three of four. Texas won for just the fourth time in its last 11 games. Jake Burger hit a three-run homer off AL ERA leader Martín Pérez that helped the White Sox take a 5-0 lead into the fifth.
— Tyler Nevin hit a three-run home run, Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays added an RBI each and led the Baltimore Orioles over the Kansas City Royals 6-4. Nevin hit just his second homer of the season which was a 425-foot shot to center field that give the Orioles a 4-3 lead in the sixth. Royals starter Daniel Lynch after he gave up four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. Tyler Wells went six innings allowing three earned runs. Former Royal Jorge Lopez earned his eighth save of the season for Baltimore.
— The Miami Marlins got a solid start from rookie Braxton Garrett and Jon Berti drove in two runs to help them extend their winning streak to five games with a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Garrett yielded six hits and an unearned run with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings for the win in his second start this season. The Marlins scored three runs in the second inning with the help of a costly error by rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña. Jose Altuve drove in the lone Houston run with a two-out double in the fifth.
— Seth Brown hit a grand slam to cap a five-run seventh inning, and the Oakland Athletics stopped a 10-game losing streak — their longest in 11 years — by defeating the Cleveland Indians 10-5. Oakland right fielder Ramón Laureano appeared to make an emotional speech before the rally, screaming in the dugout. He was ejected in the seventh by first base umpire Paul Emmel. Steven Vogt, Christian Bethancourt, and Sean Murphy also homered for Oakland. Oakland was outscored 60-20 during its longest skid since the A’s lost 10 in a row from May 30 to June 9, 2011.
— Left-hander Kyle Freeland pitched six strong innings and the Colorado Rockies knocked out heralded rookie lefty MacKenzie Gore in the third inning to beat the San Diego Padres 6-2 and split a doubleheader. The Padres won the first game 2-1 when automatic runner Manny Machado hustled home in the 10th inning on a two-out wild pitch and a throwing error by catcher Elias Díaz. About 40 minutes before the second game, the Padres announced that Melvin and bench coach Ryan Christenson entered COVID-19 protocols and that quality control coach Ryan Flaherty would manage.
— Dylan Moore hit a walk-off single to center field off Boston reliever Hansel Robles in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 7-6 win over the Red Sox on Saturday night. The Mariners entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 6-5 after Seattle native Bobby Dalbec broke a 5-all tie with a solo homer to left field for Boston in the top half of the inning. Abraham Toro tied it for Seattle with an RBI single that scored J.P. Crawford, and Moore hit a ball past a diving Jackie Bradley, Jr. in center field to score pinch-runner Sam Haggerty for the victory. The teams split the first two games of the series.
— Jared Walsh had the ninth cycle in franchise history, Mike Trout returned to the lineup and had his 23rd career multi-home run game and the Los Angeles Angels rolled to an 11-6 victory over the New York Mets Saturday night. Walsh went 4 for 5 and drove in three runs. He completed the Halos’ first cycle since Shohei Ohtani in 2019 with a two-run triple in the eighth inning after Mets’ center fielder Khalil Lee failed to make a diving catch. Trout — who missed three games due to right groin tightness — helped power a five-homer onslaught for the Angels. It is the second time they have gone deep five times this season.
