The state is taking action to help families affected by the current shortage of baby formula.
Illinois Department of Human Services Spokesperson Marisa Kollias says they know how stressful this has been for parents.
“So what we’ve done is partnered with our suppliers and continue to boost our efforts and increase our support centers to ensure that all residence around Illinois, with emphasis on low-income families, to have what they need for their baby.”
DHS is asking retailers to set aside formula for families enrolled in the “WIC” program. The Department of Public health urges parents not to hoard supplies of formula or try to make their own homemade formula.”
DHS has trained caseworkers to assist families with formula questions through a helpline at 1-800-843-6154.
