The Iuka Grade School held eighth-grade graduation Monday night. The 21 graduates were led by valedictorian Zoey Heiple and salutatorian Madison Keserauskas. The school will promote kindergarten students during a ceremony planned for six Thursday night.
Superintendent Sam Alli says two major summer improvements are planned once the school year ends.
Johannes Construction of Centralia has been awarded a $256,000 bid to remodel the school offices and move the reception area next to the outside entry door. Alli says the move will allow for a more secure situation when someone enters the building.
The boiler will be replaced with four smaller boilers. Allie says Baer Heating and Cooling of Trenton has the bid for that job at $236,603. He reports with a four boiler system they should still be able to operate if one fails. A failure of the old boiler earlier this year resulted in the school having to close for a few days.
Alli reports 30 students who have fallen behind are scheduled to attend summer school this year.
