Centralia Police have arrested a Centralia woman on multiple drug charges after allegedly finding a considerable amount of drugs hidden in her clothing and in a backpack.
Zoie Bryant of Terry Street was taken into custody for alleged manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of meth.
She was later charged in Marion County Court with possession of under five grams of meth and had bond set at $5,000 personal recognizance. But Bryant hasn’t been released because she is still being held on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation warrant.
Centralia Police say they began looking for Bryant after she had been seen by police who were responding to a drug overdose at the Midtown Motel. She was later located walking under the underpass on Chestnut Street at McCord.
After allegedly admitting to having drugs, she was taken to the Centralia Police Station where she was stripped searched, and found in possession of three pill bottles, syringes, and a container of a white substance that field-tested for methamphetamine. A later search of her backpack allegedly turned up a container with 39 loose pills believed to be suspected fentanyl, three baggies with suspect fentanyl pills, as well as a number of empty zip lock baggies.
Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says additional charges could be filed once lab tests are completed on the substance believed to be fentanyl.
