One wing of Heritage Woods on East McCord in Centralia was closed down in the aftermath of a break in a three-inch water line in the building’s sprinkler system.
Centralia City Firefighters say the problem was on a water line between the roof and second-floor ceiling. Before the water could be turned off, they report several inches of water on the hallway floor on the second floor. The water then found its way to the first floor. In all, firemen report that 20 rooms were impacted, but the entire wing ended up being shut down when electricity had to be turned off.
Firemen say all employees were called in to assist in relocating the impacted residents. They report about half went to stay with relatives until repairs were made while the other half were relocated to other rooms in the facility.
Its expected carpeting and furniture will have to be replaced in addition to repairs to the waterline.
The Centralia City Fire Department received a fire alarm when water began flowing through the sprinkler system at 8:30 Sunday night. They remained on the scene until about 11 pm. Two additional firefighters were called in to assist.
