The IDPH warns that cases of Covid-19 are slowly rising in many areas of the state.
The vast majority of Illinois is rated at low risk of transmission, but cases have been increasing. State Public Health Acting Director Dr. Amaal Tokars urges everyone to get fully vaccinated and offers this guidance if your community risk level is bumped up to medium.
“At Medium risk levels we start to get more concerned about elders and others who are immuno-compromised or other significant co-morbidities. These are individuals the CDC recommend considering wearing face coverings again in indoor public places.”
Tokars was asked about the potential of mask mandates coming back.
“That is not something we are talking about at this time, however I would never say that nothing is possible. We are going to do what we think is the wisest and best based on the current circumstances that we see.”
Although there has been an increase in cases, Tokars says hospitalizations and deaths continue to remain low.
The latest CDC tracker information for Marion County shows less than ten cases and no new hospitalizations for the week ending on Wednesday, April 13th. Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow is reporting no new deaths in the past week and no congregate care facilities on outbreak status.
Clinton, Clay, Fayette, Jefferson, Washington and Wayne Counties all are reporting less than ten cases during the past week. Clinton and Clay Counties both have one new hospitalization.
