Central City Clerk/Collector resigns because of ‘dysfunctional’ village board

Central City Village Clerk/Collector Karlie Patten has resigned effective Friday because of what she termed as a dysfunctional village board.

Patten’s action came at a special board meeting Wednesday night where Patten had asked for additional hours while she felt Mayor Pro Tem Rose Ann Pickett was trying to take duties and hours away from her as part of an ongoing personnel issue.    Patten had earlier filed a formal complaint against Pickett for harassment and interfering with her duties.   Patten says while former Mayor Ken Buchannon said the complaint would be investigated, newly installed Mayor Gary Hall has reportedly told Patten there would be no further investigation.  Hall was not at the special meeting.

Patten did agree to work hourly until the board could find a replacement and make sure village employees are paid next week.   No action was taken on the proposal.

The board also finalized the hiring of Shane Swartzlander as Public Works Director and he officially resigned from his seat on the village board.

Patten also informed the board that their auditor Susan Lyons no longer wanted to complete the village’s audit.
