A rural Centralia man received apparent head injuries when a tree he was cutting down for firewood on a neighbor’s property fell on him.

Salem Fire Department Fire Marshal Bill Fulton says the department assisted in bringing Bob Kell of the 1700 block of Mt. Moriah Road out of the woods to a waiting ambulance. Kell was taken to the helipad at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and transported directly to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.

Fulton says it was unclear how the accident happened.

Kell was unable to tell emergency workers what happened. He was found by the property owner who became concerned because he saw Kell’s tractor sitting in the woods with no activity around it. Salem Firemen were called to assist ambulance personnel at 4:52 Sunday afternoon.
