Centralia Police have arrested a 35-year-old Centralia man on new charges of threatening a public official, escape, and resisting arrest after he allegedly fled SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital where he had been admitted after earlier crashing his bike into a pickup truck trying to avoid police.
Police say the series of events began on Monday when an officer attempted a traffic stop on Meyers’ bike at 8th and Locust because they knew he was wanted on two outstanding warrants. Meyers allegedly fled on the bike but was thrown off when running into the side of a pickup truck at 7th and Elm. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital after complaining of injuries and was admitted.
An ESDA member was watching Meyers Tuesday morning when he ran out of his 4th floor room, went down four flights of steps, and kicked a double locked door open to flee the hospital in a northwest direction. Centralia officers quickly responded and took Meyers into custody without further incident.
In addition to the new charges, Meyers is being held on a Marion County burglary warrant with bond set at $20,000 and a Clinton County aggravated battery warrant with bond set at $7,500.
