A Mt. Vernon home has been destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon.
Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Kevin Sargent says Carol Ann Smith was not at home at the time the fire was discovered by a neighbor during the noon hour.
He reports the fire at #5 West Adams Court had a good head start and while the house could not be saved, they were able to get some of her belongings out of one part of the home that was just smoke damaged.
Sargent says the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. The homeowner had electrical problems in the past.
There were no injuries.
Firemen were on the scene until 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
