The Wood River Police Department has requested Illinois State Police Zone Six Major Crimes Unit investigate a fatal officer involving shooting in Wood River early Tuesday morning.
Both Wood River and East Alton Police responded to a call of a man with a gun. When officers arrived, 31-year-old Tyler Marler of East St. Louis allegedly pointed a black, metal BB pistol at officers.
Officers fired at and struck Marler. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
