Marion County Board to restructure meeting format

Starting in February, the Marion County Board will be meeting twice a month.

Board Chair Debbie Smith announced the change at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The board will now meet on both the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at seven pm in the board room in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center.

Right now the board meets in full session just one time a month on the second Tuesday unless a special meeting is called.

With the move to two meetings a month, there will be no regularly scheduled committee meetings.  However, the committee chair and members will remain in place in case there is a need for a special meeting.   Under the plan, all presentations will come before the full board.

In the past, some board members have indicated they didn’t have enough information to fully understand what they are voting on if they were not on the committee presenting the issue.  Board members don’t get minutes of meetings until the following month.

Smith says they will try the new schedule in February, March, and April and then make a decision if it will be permanent or they will go back to the one meeting a month schedule.
