Marion County Highway Department Engineer Mike McCormick says they are ready for winter.
He told the Road and Bridge Committee Thursday night that their salt bins are full and they have enough employees to man all seven of their snow routes. McCormick says they have another load of salt on the way in case the winter weather takes a turn for the worse. He reports there is plenty of supply for road salt this winter.
McCormick is also reminding everyone the ten-ton posted weight limits on secondary county roads goes into effect on January 15th and continues until April 15th. For those who need to move a bigger load, free permits are available by contacting the highway department office.
McCormick also announced that they should wrap up obtaining easements for the new Church Road Bridge just east of Route 37 in the next few weeks. He reports a bid award should be in place by March to allow for spring construction. Church Road has been closed at the bridge for several years resulting in long detours for some residents.
The highway department announced Friday morning that the Martin Road has now been reopened in rural Alma where it had been closed the past few weeks to allow Marathon Oil to make permanent repairs to their pipeline that had to be shut down in December due to a leak or break.
