Holiday Tournament Action From Around The Area On Wednesday

At the Mater Dei Tournament last night, Nashville routed IVC 57-24 and also beat Mascoutah 55-39, Breese Central over Wesclin 51-42 and they lost to Briarcrest 57-48, Doss over Highland 69-38 and Mater Dei beat Briarcrest JV 64-47.  The tournament finishes today with Wesclin and IVC for 9th place at 12, Breese Central and MEL at 1:30 for 7th place, Highland and Mater Dei for 5th place at 3, Briarcrest and Mascoutah play for 3rd place at 6 and then at 7:30 tonight the title game will be Doss, Kentucky taking on Nashville.

The SC Cougars dropped the Dieterich Tournament championship to the hosts 51-42.  Spencer Johannes led the Cougars with 15 and Ethan Watwood finished with 11.  Red Hill over Patoka/Odin for 3rd place 58-39, CHBC beat Arcola 57-30 for 5th place and in the 7th place game OPH beat Sullivan 56-41.

The trophy games are set today at the 54th annual Carlinville Tournament with Calhoun and Staunton playing at 1:30 at the middle school for 7th place at the same time Carlinville and Gillespie play for 5th in the main gym.  At 4:30 it’s Bunker Hill and Wood River for 3rd and the title game tonight at 7:30 with Litchfield and Hillsboro.

Columbia won the Freeburg/Columbia championship knocking off Marquette 39-25.  Waterloo took 3rd place over Civic Memorial 71-48, Gibault over Freeburg for 5th place 44-29 and Southwestern opened the day with a 45-35 win over Valmeyer for 7th place.

Today is trophy day at Vandalia with Okaw Valley and McGivney playing for 9th place at 2 followed by Flora and Cumberland for 7th place at 3;30, Vandalia and Nokomis at 5pm for 5th, TTown JV will play Shelbyville for 3rd at 6:30 and then the title game of the 49th tournament will see Macon Meridian and Pana at 8.

At the Effingham/TTown Tournament in the championship semifinals yesterday Lincoln Way East beat Newton 58-43 to advance to the title game against Chicago Brooks who beat Oak Lawn 57-53.  Centennial will play for the consolation title with their 57-51 win over Charleston.  They will play Dixon after their 57-30 win over Mattoon.  In the 5th place bracket TTown beat St Anthony 49-41 and Effingham nipped Knoxville 48-46.

Herrin won the Eldorado Tournament beating Massac County 53-36.  Hamilton County over Carterville for 3rd place 59-51, Fairfield lost to Eldorado in the 5th place game 43-28 and Hardin County won the consolation title over NCOE 52-32.

At Sesser Valier, Christopher is in the title game after their 67-51 win over Cobden, they will take on Sesser who knocked off Altamont 60-55.  Sparta beat New Athens 69-66 to advance to the consy title game to play Thompsonville after their 58-41 win over Waltonville.
