The Salem Wildcats fell to the Carlyle Indians 51-41 in the first round of the Duster Thomas Classic at Pinckneyville on Monday.
The Wildcats took a 10-6 first-quarter lead but scored only three points in the second quarter to fall behind Carlyle 19 to 13 at halftime. Salem fought back to close the deficit to one point at the end of the third quarter before being outscored 22-11 in the final quarter to be put away by Carlyle.
Too many turnovers and ice-cold shooting at times led to the Wildcats defeat.

Carlyle was led by Hayden Hoffmann with 18 and Wyatt Nothaus with 14.
