Wildcats Rout Wood River….SC Holds Off Sandoval…Boys Scores

The Salem Wildcats used a 24-6 second quarter to extend what was a 2-point lead after one quarter, into a 20 point halftime advantage as they ran the clock in the 4th quarter in their 64-27 win at East Alton Wood River. Salem hit 8 three pointers in the game with 3 each from Brendan Phillips and Charlie Fehrenbacher Caden Bee scored 11 of his game-high 17 points in the 2nd quarter as Salem was building their huge lead. The 3rd quarter, Salem outscored the Oilers 21-7 to set up the running clock the final 8 minutes. Kaleb Anthony and Fehrenbacher finished with 11 each. Salem finishes the Pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a 5-6 record and 2-2 in the Cahokia Conference. The varsity will be in action on Monday to open the Duster Thomas Tournament in Pinckneyville at 10:30 a.m. against Carlyle.
The Salem JV improved to 6-1 with their 55-38 win. Rolan Adams finished with 15 for Salem, Seth Bailey added 13.
Also in the Cahokia Conference last night, Breese Central beat Freeburg 54-50, Carlyle in overtime over Red Bud 56-53, Chester beat Sparta 67-50, Columbia over Roxana 79-33.
The SC Cougars improved to 7-4 on the season with a 68-58 victory over visiting Sandoval. Keenin Willshire had his most prolific scoring game of the season leading SC with 24, Aidan Dodson added 14 and Ethan Watwood 11. For Sandoval, Shaffer had 25 in the loss, Calhoun added 13 and Hill 11. The Cougars will play at Martinsville tomorrow with the freshman at 3:30, then JV followed by the varsity contest.
