A small residential unit attached to an outbuilding at 1237 Case Street in Centralia was destroyed by fire Thursday night.
Centralia City Firemen say the entire building had heavy flames showing upon their arrival.
At first, it was believed the occupant Gregory Pocrnich was still inside, but firemen were quickly able to determine he had left the home a short time before the fire began.
The fire began to burn a power line, causing it to arc until Ameren crews arrived to disconnect it.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.
The fire call came in at 7:15 pm, with firemen on the scene for one and a half hours. All available off-duty Centralia Firefighters were called to the scene.
The building is owned by Pocrnich’s mother, Rhonda Atteberry.
