The hours of Salem City Hall will be changing with the first of the year.
The Salem City Council Monday night agreed to move the opening time to 7:30 and also close a half hour earlier at 4:30 pm. City Manager Rex Barbee says the city hall staff has requested the move and noted the drop off in traffic after four pm. He also sees some potential advantages.
“The change in hours from 8-5 to 7:30-4:30 should allow a lot more people who have jobs from 8-5 to have access to City Hall early in the morning and that sort of thing. It allows our staff to be more inline with our Public Works Department so we can get work orders issued earlier in the day. Right now we don’t accept any work orders after 3:30 so our guys have a chance to get to the property and handle it so I think there are positives moving it up to the 7:30 range.”
Initially the council talked about setting a trial period, but later decided to make it permanent unless problems develop with the schedule.
