UNDATED (AP) — Alabama has jumped Cincinnati to No. 2 behind Georgia in The Associated Press college football poll and Oklahoma has dropped eight spots to No. 12 after losing for the first time this season. Georgia is a unanimous No. 1 in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank for the sixth consecutive week and the Southeastern Conference has the top two teams in the poll for the sixth time this season. The switch from Cincinnati at No. 2 to Alabama was more about the Bearcats than the Crimson Tide. Cincinnati remained unbeaten after winning at USF 45-28, but it was the fourth straight week the Bearcats played a team with a losing record and found themselves in a competitive game in the second half.
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Chloe Bibby scored 19 points, Ashley Owusu added 14 and Angel Reese had 12 as No. 4 Maryland beat James Madison 81-45. The Terrapins were playing without star junior guard Diamond Miller for the third straight game because of a sore right knee. They suffered another key loss early in the third quarter against the Dukes when Owusu had to be helped off the court after she injured her left foot. Kiki Jefferson, who had a career-high 31 points in JMU’s opening win against Virginia, led the Dukes with 16 points.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Rebeka Mikulasikova tied her career high, scoring 19 points to pace the Ohio State women, tied at No. 17 in the rankings, to an 86-48 victory over Norfolk State. Eleven of 12 Buckeyes scored, with Taylor Mikesell coming off the bench to drain four 3-pointers and add 12 points. Jacy Sheldon missed her only shot from the floor, a 3, but added 10 points on a perfect 10-of-10 at the foul line. Ohio State was 22 of 28 at the line. Janay Turner and Tatiana Jones paced the Spartans with 11 points apiece.
UNDATED (AP) — When Texas Tech fired its football coach last month, the players had little choice but to move on. And now they’ve secured bowl eligibility for the school for the first time since 2017. The Red Raiders earned their sixth victory in dramatic fashion, beating Iowa State 41-38 on a 62-yard field goal by Jonathan Garibay. Texas Tech’s first five wins this season came under Matt Wells, who was fired and replaced by interim coach Sonny Cumbie. Joey McGuire has been named as the long-term replacement, but Cumbie is continuing as the interim. There are now 60 teams that have reached bowl eligibility. East Carolina beat Memphis 30-29 in overtime Saturday to secure bowl eligibility for the first time since 2015.
