The IHSA state volleyball championships will be played for today after yesterday’s state semifinals at Redbird Arena in Normal. Breese Mater Dei fell in their 2a semifinal to Lombard Montini 25-11, 25-10. The Lady Knights will play for 3rd place today against Chicago Christian after they fell to Pleasant Plains 25-17, 25-21. Mater Dei will play at 12:25.
In 4a, Edwardsville dropped a tight match with Mother McAuley 29-27, 21-25, 16-25. They will play for 3rd place today against Barrington who lost 25-23, 25-13 to Metea Valley. The Lady Tigers will play today at 7:25.
In 1a last night St Thomas More beat Freeport Aquin in three sets and will play Augusta Southeastern after their win over Springfield Lutheran. In 3a, Nazareth Academy beat Joliet Catholic in straight sets and Belvidere North defeated Normal West.
