UNDATED (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers have handed the Carolina Hurricanes their first home loss of the season.
Joel Farabee and Zack MacEwen scored in the third period to send the Flyers past the Canes, 2-1. Carter Hart turned back 39 shots and blanked Carolina after Steven Lorentz beat him midway through the second.
The Hurricanes fell to 10-2-0 overall and 5-1 at home. The Flyers are 7-3-2.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— Conor Sheary scored with 1:22 remaining to give the Capitals a 4-3 win at Columbus. Alex Ovechkin netted his 12th goal of the season and 742nd of his career, moving him ahead of Brett Hull for fourth on the NHL’s all-time list.
— The Oilers absorbed a 3-2 loss to the Sabres despite two power-play goals from NHL points leader Leon Draisaitl. Edmonton led, 2-1 until Dylan Cozens scored twice in a 5:14 span of the second period.
— Dylan Strome scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period to push the Blackhawks past the Coyotes, 2-1. Alex DeBrincat also scored and Patrick Kane had two assists as Chicago won its third straight since Derek King replaced the fired Jeremy Colliton as head coach last Saturday.
— The Maple Leafs pulled out a 2-1 win over the Flames on Auston Matthews’ goal at 2:32 of overtime. William Nylander had a goal and an assist in Toronto’s seventh in in eight games.
