UNDATED (AP) — Dusty Baker will return for a third season as manager of the Houston Astros after agreeing to a one-year contract with the AL champions.
The Astros lost to Tampa Bay in the 2020 AL Championship Series and to Atlanta in this year’s six-game World Series.
The 72-year-old Baker has has 1,987 wins as a big league manager but has never won a World Series title.

— The Cubs have claimed left-hander Wade Miley off waivers from the Reds. The 35-year-old Miley went 12-7 with a 3.37 ERA in 28 starts for Cincinnati this season. He threw his first career no-hitter in a 3-0 win at Cleveland on May 7.
— Cleveland has picked up the $12 million contract option on Jose Ramirez for 2022 after the All-Star third baseman had another MVP-caliber season. Ramírez was one of the only bright spots for the team’s inconsistent offense, batting .266 with 36 homers, 103 RBIs and 27 steals in the final year of a team-friendly $26 million, four-year deal.
— The Pirates have claimed outfielder Greg Allen off waivers from the Yankees. Allen hit .270 with four doubles, a triple, two RBI and five stolen bases in 15 games with New York in 2021.
— Gil Hodges, Roger Maris and Minnie Miñoso are among 10 men on the ballot of the Golden Days Era committee of baseball’s Hall of Fame. Dick Allen, Ken Boyer, Jim Kaat, Tony Oliva, Billy Pierce and Maury Wills also are on the ballot. The vote is scheduled for Dec. 5. A separate 16-person early baseball era committee also will meet to consider several pre-1950 candidates.
— The Braves were cheered by hundreds of thousands of fans Friday in a two-stage parade celebrating the team’s first World Series championship since 1995. The party started in downtown Atlanta, near the Braves’ former home at Turner Field. The fan turnout also was strong for the final mile of the parade, which ended at the Braves’ current Truist Park in suburban Cobb County.
