The Centralia Walmart has been granted a $1.4-million building permit to update the décor with new colors and refacing of all the signs.
The renovation of the Walmart store made up most of the construction activity in Centralia during October. Overall, the city recorded 14 building permits totaling $1-million-558-thousand dollars.
The next largest permit was issued to Jeff McNeil. He was given a permit to construct a $60,000 new office building at 1212 North Elm. Centralia Community Development Director Gayla Harting says McNeil plans to use part of the building as an office for his carpeting business. The rest will be available for rent.
Matthew Stedelin was granted a $30,000 permit for a new pole building at 1803 Lackey.
The social service organization BCMW was given a permit for a new $24,288 sign at their headquarters at 909 East Rexford.
There were five demolition permits issued during the month. Three of them were to Tysha Mathis who has purchased the property at 514 East McCord, 514 and a half East McCord, and 522 East McCord and plans to demolish three derelict buildings. Harting is pleased to see the improvements as the derelict buildings are very visible to residents and others visiting Centralia as they are located on a main corridor.
The other demolition permits were issued for a fire-damaged home at 721 South Locust and for a shed at 641 Airport Road.
