Wildcats Season Ends At Breese Saturday Night

The Salem Wildcats football season came to an end Saturday night falling at Breese Central 20-0 in front of a capacity crowd at Astroth Field.  The game was scoreless after the first quarter, but the Cougars would strike in the 2nd on a wet, slippery night and terrible field conditions, a Salem defender slipped leading to an open 62 yard touchdown pass on a 2nd and 26 and Salem trailed 7-0 at the half.  Central added to their lead in the 3rd quarter with a pair of touchdowns on the ground from Miguel Velazquez and Landon Garogosian.  Salem was led on the ground by Brayden Smith who had 12 carries for 43 yards.  Sam Greene did find 7 different receivers as he went 13-of-21 for 98 yards.  The Cougars will advance and will host Murphysboro this week.

Also in 4a games, Carterville beat Harrisburg 42-12, Mt Zion lost to Paris 17-6, Murphysboro over Macomb 43-22, Cahokia lost to Rochester 48-0.  This week, Civic Memorial hosts Sacred Heart Griffin, Carterville at Freeburg and Paris hosts Rochester.

In 1a, Sesser Valier beat Casey 35-7 and will play at Athens this week.

In 2a, Flora lost to St Teresa 62-7, Johnston City over Lawrenceville 43-12, Nashville 48-20 over Mendon Unity and Vandalia shutout Chester 24-0.  This week Nashville goes to Bismarck Henning, Mater Dei hosts Johnston City, Vandalia at St Teresa and Pana hosts Maroa Forsyth.

In 3a, Benton 42-0 over Piasa, Carlinville beat DuQuoin 40-26, Fairfield over Hoopeston 26-0, Monticello 42-7 over Greenville, Mt Carmel beat St Joseph Ogden 46-14 and Tolono Unity over Newton 46-6.  This week, Benton hosts Monticello, Carlinville at Mt Carmel and Fairfield goes to Williamsville.

In 5a, Carbondale lost to Kankakee 38-7, Mahomet Seymour routed Jacksonville 40-8, Marion over Metamora 41-8, Mascoutah 28-20 over Dunlap and Triad beat Hillcrest 20-19.  This week Triad is at Mahomet and Marion goes to Mascoutah.

In 6a, East St Louis beat down Riverside Brookfield 66-0 and will host Oak Lawn Richards.  In 7a, Collinsville lost to Geneva.
