Sign up for the BCMW-WJBD Adopt-a-Family Christmas program is set for next Monday through Friday.
The program is aimed at disadvantaged families in Marion County where various organizations, individuals, businesses, churches, and other groups adopt them for the Christmas season.
Sign-up will be at BCMW Community Services at 909 East Rexford in Centralia from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. For those closer to Salem, the Bryan Bennett Library at 315 South Maple in Salem will also be a signup location. Hours for the library sign-up are from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30 to one pm on Friday. All applications must be turned in by 4 pm Friday afternoon, November 5th.
All applications require 30 days proof of household income and Medicaid card. Each location will make copies of documents if you are unable to make your own.
BCMW will be coordinating with other Christmas projects in Marion County to avoid duplications and reach those most in need. The program targets those making strides toward stability.
The Adopt-a-Family program last year provided warm clothing and toys for 215 families which included 577 children during the 2020 Christmas Season. Cash donations are also received from some generous donors. Toy drives were conducted by local schools and businesses. There were also close to 65 individual groups, churches, schools, businesses, or organizations that adopted families and shopped and wrapped gifts for them.
Anyone wishing to adopt a child to purchase for or to make a toy or cash donations may contact Tammy Chmielewski at (618) 532-7388 extension 127.
