The Salem Lady Cats volleyball season came to an end in the Class 2a regional opener last night in Flora, losing to Wesclin in 3 sets. Salem opened the night with a 25-17 win but lost the next two sets 22-25, 13-25. The other match last night saw Flora beat Shelbyville 25-24, 25-21. Tonight in Flora, Mater Dei takes on Wesclin at 5:30 followed by Vandalia and Flora.
Also in 2a regional quarterfinals last night at Fairfield, Mt Carmel over Johnston City and Benton beat West Frankfort. At Newton, TTown over Marshall in 3 sets and Robinson beat Lawrenceville. At Red Bud, Sparta beat Althoff and Columbia over the hosts. At Roxana it was Greenville beating Piasa.
Today in 2a regional semifinals at Calinville it’s Marquette and Litchfield followed by Pana and Carlinville. At Carterville it’s Chester and Pinckneyville followed by Carterville and DuQuoin. At Fairfield, the hosts take on Mt Carmel followed by Benton and Carmi. At Newton, Breese Central plays TTown followed by Newton and Robinson. At Red Bud it’s Nashville and Sparta
In 1a regional quarterfinals last night, Wayne City beat Thompsonville at Albion, Hutsonville knocked off Patoka 25-15, 25-23 at Clay City. At St Anthony, South Central beat Mulberry Grove 25-10, 25-11 and St Elmo in 2 sets over Cowden. At Martinsville it was Casey over the hosts and Christ Our Rock needed 3 sets but beat Marissa at New Athens 21-25, 25-22, 25-16.
Today in 1a regional play at Albion, Grayville takes on Cisne followed by Albion and Webber. At Clay City it’s the hosts and Red Hill followed by Oblong and North Clay. At Metro East Lutheran it is Carlyle against First Baptist Academy followed by the hosts and Lebanon. At St Anthony tonight, the hosts play Dieterich and Altamont takes on Neoga. At Elkville, Zeigler plays Sesser. At New Athens tonight, Sandoval will take on Gibault at 5:30.
In 3a volleyball regional quarters, Olney beat Charleston in 3 sets at Effingham and Triad over Jerseyville in Troy. Tonight in semifinal play at Mt Vernon, Centralia opens up with the host Lady Rams at 5:30 followed by Herrin and Carbondale. At Effingham, Marion plays Olney followed by Mattoon and Effingham.
In 4a regional semifinal today Collinsville will host Belleville East. At Granite City it will be Edwardsville taking on Granite City followed by Belleville West and Alton.
